Algonquin College employees and learners are invited to A Pathway Forward on April 2, 2024, from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. in Nawapon. With the introduction of exterior street signs, Algonquin College continues to embrace and celebrate the first language of this territory, fostering familiarity with Anishinabe language, history and culture throughout the Ottawa Campus.

Learn how the project came about, how names were chosen, how to pronounce them and what they mean.

The Open House will provide a unique opportunity for Algonquin College students to connect with Anishinabe Algonquin cultural objects made of birch bark, ash wood, moose hide, beaver fur, etc.

Speak with those involved in the project from Facilities and Indigenous Initiatives.

A variety of different materials will be on display from the traditional territory of the Anishinabe Algonquin Nation. Attendees will be able to learn about the Algonquin College Centre for First Nations, Métis and Inuit students — the Mamidosewin Centre.

The Mamidosewin Centre will be showcasing its services and activities with some Indigenous items to share.

Finally, there will be some language learning activities during the Open House where attendees can hear and practice speaking some words in Anishinabemowin (the original language of the Anishinabe Algonquin Nation).

Pijashig kakina (everyone is welcome)!
